When Danielpour received a phone call from a Manhattan publisher, he learned of the outbreak of the terrorist attacks, and was struck by the connection between the events and the \"American Requiem. Originally, \"American Requiem\" was based on interviews with more than 60 veterans of different wars fought throughout the 20th century, and featured Thomas Hampson as soloist. Now Danielpour has created two new collections of songs, also intended to be sung by Thomas Hampson, for the victims of tragic battles around the world, including those of 9\/11. One is \"Songs of Loneliness,\" based on a poem by William Butler Yeats, and the other is \"Songs of War,\" based on a poem by Waldo Whitman.And \"Toward a Wonderful City,\" composed in 1992, is a portrait of New York City that did not yet know the incident.
