The story begins when Roberto and Giannino wash ashore on an island where women rule and men, surrounded by them, are required to tend to their appearance. While the two men are astonished by these strange customs, Cassandra and Queen Cretidea—who discovered them—vymate over Roberto, and Cretidea’s favorite, Gersomino, is intensely jealous of Roberto while constantly preoccupied with his own appearance… This whimsical tale is woven together with music that straddles the Baroque and Classical eras, brimming with melodic beauty.
