Description:
A remarkable work from Shaham's own start-up label! Israeli composer Avner Dolman's vocal, piano and violin sonatas! Canary Classics is an independent label launched in 2004 by world-renowned violinist Gil Shaham, who boasts a vast repertoire of works from his Israeli roots. This album features three works by Avner Dolman, a promising composer from Tel Aviv, Israel. Dolman is a graduate of Tel Aviv University, where he majored in composition, musicology, and physics, and received a master's degree in physics. At the age of 25, in 2000, he received the Israeli Prime Minister's Award for Composition, the youngest ever awarded to a composer. In 2000, at the age of 25, he was awarded the Israeli Prime Minister's Prize as a composer, the youngest ever awarded to a composer. Currently, he is a composer of note with many commissions from various orchestras, including Gil Shaham.Commissioned by Gettysburg College in 2013 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg (July 1-3, 1863), the de facto decisive battle in the Civil War, "Letters from Gettysburg" was composed from the letters of the 97th New York Infantryman who was mortally wounded in the battle and died a few days later. Composed for soprano, baritone, large chorus and percussion. Its premiere was broadcast on radio stations throughout the United States. The work is an ambitious work in which Dolman expresses a sorrowful cry through a dialogue between a large chorus reminiscent of an orchestra and solo soprano and baritone voices. The other two pieces are also included in the previously released titles. After Brahms" was recorded as part of Orli Shaham's solo project "Brahms Impaled" (CC15), and consists of three interludes for solo piano written in the style of Brahms, with Dolman's own personal style. Also commissioned by the Shaham siblings, Violin Sonata No. 3 "Nigun" was premiered in 2011 and is included in "Hebrew Melodies" (CC10).This work in four movements draws you into a unique world from beginning to end, and the glissando and flageolet technique with microtones and overtones take you into a mystical world. The tension and unique singing, which can only be expressed by Shaham, and the beautiful sound can be enjoyed in this work. King International
