Description:
Beautiful choral and performance. Edenstam's second Folk Christmas! Folk musician Edenstam (1961-) collaborated with the St. Jakob Chamber Choir in Stockholm on the second Folk Christmas in Sweden (Folkjul) (BIS NL 5031). The first album, released in 2007, is said to have been inspired by Edenstam's memories of her encounters with a church choir in Sirna and an organ in an English cathedral, and was widely loved by Swedish people, who are familiar with folk music. The second album was produced in the same style as the first. The second album is in the same style as the first, with the Basque folk song "The Angel Gabriel Visits (Gabriel's Announcement)" sung in Swedish. The "Begging Song of Maalung," "Song of Staffan," and "Staffan's Haring (Part 2)" are sung about "Staffan (St. Stephen). Polska" by Viktor Gabrielsson from Elvdalen, Dalarna, with chorus, vocal solo, recorder, violin, and organ. The "Coffee Gungal" (walking song), which Sandra Matrull wrote and presented to a friend to play at her wedding coffee hour; Edenstam's "Christine's Polska"; and "Christmas Morning" by Mats Valman, a folk musician from Saksdalen in the Dalarna region. The three pieces will be performed by a violin and organ duo. The beautiful melody "All to that Bright Star" was composed by Edenstam's friend, Lakesand singer and folk musician Sophia Sandeen on a folk poem. Ulrika Bourdain is a folk musician born in Helgum, northeastern Sweden. Philadelphia native Gary (Gary) Grayden (1955-) studied with Erik Eriksson at the Royal Stockholm School of Music and has been the artistic director of the St. James Chamber Choir since 1984.
