Description:

Highlife/Afrobeat pioneer Evo Taylor appears in the "JAZZ IS DEAD" series, which always attracts great attention from listeners and players alike. No way! That no way. For aficionados like myself who follow West African highlife and Afrobeat, this is especially joyous, uplifting, and shocking news. I never thought I would see the day when Adrian Young and Ali Shaheed Muhammad would record with Ebo Taylor.... Taylor, who began his career as a guitarist & composer in the prestigious highlife bands of the 60's such as the Stargazers and Broadway (later the Uhuru Dance Band), is literally the living embodiment of the newly independent Ghana and the temperature of highlife as it sounded there. In the early 2000s, he was reevaluated, and his unknown numbers with memorable intros and hooks have been used as a sampling source by hip-hop and R&B track makers. The song was also used as a sampling source by hip-hop and R&B track makers. This album also includes "Obi Do Woa (If Somoene Loves You)," which is a reference to Taylor's masterpiece "Love and Death," which is famous for being used as sampling material. The tight, thrilling drums, congas, psychedelic fuzz guitar, and synth ensemble swirl together like a whirlwind, and Taylor's vocals, which have grown in maturity, are heartbreakingly beautiful. This alone is enough to make you wonder how rich the content of the album is. This is a historical work that will no doubt be looked back on and listened to decades from now, so please don't miss out on buying it. (HIGHLIFE HEAVEN)
