Her virtuosity, deep insight, broad repertoire, generosity, and enigmatic playing make her an incomparably fascinating pianist.\n\nMartha Argerich was born in Buenos Aires on June 5, 1941. She first showed interest in the piano at the age of three. Her teacher, Vincenzo Scaramuzza, instilled in her the importance of \"emotion\" and \"singing lyrical lines. These are still recognizable traits in her playing today: she made her debut at the age of eight playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, followed the next year by Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 (K. 466) and Bach's French Suite No. 5 (BWV 816).\n\nIn 1955, the family moved to Europe so she could study with Friedrich Gulda in Austria.At this time, the Argentine government supported her parents by offering her a diplomatic position at its embassy in Vienna. She won the Geneva Music Competition and the Busoni International Competition in 1957, but it was her victory at the 7th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw at age 24 that established her as a major talent. This was followed by her legendary 1965 Chopin recital (EMI Classics, now released by Warner Classics).\n\nHer prodigious virtuosity is often compared to Horowitz. For example, there is an anecdote that she mastered Ravel's \"Gaspard de la Nuit\" in three days after being told that it was \"very difficult. Her solo career spanned a quarter of a century, during which her talent for interpreting the masterpieces of the Romantic period, particularly Chopin and Liszt, was matched only by her brilliance in performing the works of 20th century masters such as Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Messiaen. However, his isolation on stage led him to make the decision to limit his playing to chamber music and concertos, a path he followed for the next several decades.She still exudes the aura of one of the most brilliant pianists of our generation.\n\nWarner Music Japan","brand":"Warner Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51389473653025,"sku":"5021732583802","price":45422.0,"currency_code":"ARS","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/5021732583802.jpg?v=1750174963","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-ar\/products\/5021732583802","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
