A versatile soloist with a repertoire ranging from Mozart to jazz to folk music, her first album for Erato is a performance of Mozart concertos and arias using not only modern clarinet but also classical clarinet, basset clarinet, and other ancient instruments. The supple and lustrous tone of the clarinets was superb. On this second album, the songs are selected from the American Great Songbook and the French popular repertoire and mixed in a relaxed and feeling way. Pianist Bruno Fontaine and a host of unexpected guests join the recordings to provide intimate and inventive reinterpretations. While these arrangements often incorporate an abundance of freedom, here the "song" is heard through simplicity, without embellishment or excess. This is because nothing is more soothing than a familiar melody whispered in your ear. These timeless songs invite you on an inner journey. Warner Music Japan
