Both works are masterpieces by the young Handel, which caustically depict a woman's intense emotions in the face of tragedy. In both works, we can hear Handel's overwhelming talent in the use of a variety of techniques to express the shaken emotions of the characters, Armida, who has been left by her lover, and Agrippina, whose life is threatened by her son. In between these two pieces, a major symphonia and a trio sonata are interspersed to balance the album.
