In 1989, at the age of 20, he contributed the song \"Jilli\" to Miles Davis' album \"Amandla\" and played programming, guitar, and keyboards. From 1991, he joined the ska-funk-rock band Fishbone, where he was a multi-instrumentalist for eight years. In 2003, he began his solo career and released his self-titled album, \"The Good Girl Blues,\" which was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2007.Since then, he has consistently released \"Black John\" in 2009, \"Good Thang\" in 2011, \"A Sunshine State Of Mind\" in 2013, and \"Early In The Moanin'\" in 2016 He returned to Fishbone in 2017.
