Although Donohoe has performed Busoni's piano concerto at Proms concerts in the past, his first encounter with Italian piano music was in 1981, when he was commissioned by musicologist John C. G. Waterhouse (1939-1998) to give a recital focusing on 20th century Italian music. Donohoe had been working on a program of recitals focusing on 20th century Italian music, and was introduced to some very valuable works. Donohoe recalls the encounter as \"a very important moment in my development,\" as he had previously known very little about these works. The program Donohoe has chosen includes three works that are the pinnacle of Busoni's virtuosity, and concludes with a J.S.
