The symphony on this album is his only symphony, and its performance has led to its reappraisal. The album also includes the First Symphony by Schubert, with whom he had a close friendship. Hengelbrock, former music director of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Balthasar-Neumann Ensemble, and now the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Deutsche Kammerphil, who mastered the period technique, have put together a fresh performance that has never been heard before.
