Strauss: "Frau ohne Schatten" Symphonic Fantasy (Tower Records Exclusive) - Import SACD Hybrid

Credits:

Rudolf Kempe, Otto Klemperer, and the Berlin Staatskapelle.

Description:

Commemorating the 110th anniversary of Kempe's birth, this CD includes a rare 1959 stereo recording of "Gold of the Rhine" highlights with SKB and Switner's masterful performance of "Shadowless Woman". Newly reissued from the original ETERNA analog tapes in Japan. Excellent recording. World's first SACD release! Mastered only in the analog domain and converted directly to DSD! This is the 9th SACD hybridization of the latest reissue project of the original ETERNA analog tapes in Japan. Although this is a short session recording of only the beginning and part of the last section of "Gold of the Rhine," it is a very valuable source. Although the recording was made in the early days of stereo, it is a very vivid recording, including the texture of the singers' voices at that time. Even near the end, Kempe's conductor is of a large scale, and SKB's response to him is superb. This reissue of the CD, with its much higher resolution and more powerful sound than the previous CD, is a recording that should be remembered as one of Kempe's finest performances. The coupling piece is the 1970 recording of the "Shadowless Woman" Symphonic Fantasy by Switner, who also conducted the SKB.Although they are from different periods of time, they are the same orchestra, so please enjoy the differences. Kempe, who had conducted the entire "Ring" at Covent Garden since the 1950s, will conduct the "Ring" at Bayreuth for four consecutive years from 1960 after this 1959 recording. After this 1959 recording, Kempe conducted "The Ring" in Bayreuth for four consecutive years in a new production. This recording is not a live performance, but a session recording, and Kempe's attention to detail and reverence for Wagner can be felt throughout. The strong enthusiasm of the producers at the time, who took on the challenge of recording with careful preparation, as well as the distribution of the cast, also adds to the value of the album. When it was first released on ETERNA in 1960, it was only available in monaural. The following year, a stereo version was released by Electrola in Germany, and a stereo version was also released in the UK at the same time, but ETERNA, the original home of the album, did not finally release a stereo version until 1982. Therefore, the jacket design used here is that of the ETERNA stereo version (the jacket design of the first mono version is shown in the manual).
