The first installment is Mariss Jansons, who sadly passed away in November 2019.Mariss Jansons was a familiar face to Japanese audiences through his frequent visits to Japan since his first visit in 1977. He was born in Riga, Latvia, on January 14, 1943, the son of conductor Arvid Jansons. He was appointed by Mravinsky to become Mravinsky's assistant conductor with the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 1977 he accompanied Mravinsky to Japan for the first time as the assistant conductor of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2003, he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, and in 2004 he was appointed Principal Conductor of the prestigious Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam (until 2015).In addition to his work with two of the world's greatest orchestras, he was a frequent guest conductor with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic, making him one of the world's greatest conductors in both name and reality. This DVD contains footage of his 2000 tour of Japan with the Berlin Philharmonic, which brought Japanese fans to a melting pot of excitement, as well as his performances with the Waldbühne, the Concert Europe, and the Salzburg Festival with the Vienna Philharmonic.
