This production was the subject of much publicity, as Arnoncourt decided to perform the entire da Ponte trilogy in one month in a semi-opera format after the director of the Theater an der Wien's new production of "Così fan tutte" had been forced to leave the theater. Don Giovanni" depicts Don Giovanni's brilliant love story and his spectacular end. The story is full of beautiful arias and a shocking ending that captivates audiences. The title role is played by Andre Schoen, an Italian-born baritone with a charming voice. And for Don Ottervio, the English tenor Mauro Peter, who is said to be the second coming of Wunderlich. For the ladies, veteran Christine Schaefer sings Donna Anna and offers a high level of musicality.In his introduction to the Da Ponte Trilogy, Arnoncourt said, "We should follow Mozart's instructions strictly, without interpretation.
