A limited edition box set commemorating the 80th birthday of one of the greatest choreographers of our time, John Neumeier (1939.2.24-). John Neumeier has been the artistic director of the Hamburg Ballet for more than 40 years, was awarded the Kyoto Prize for Philosophy and Arts in 2015, and is one of the greatest choreographers of our time, still searching for new ways to express ballet at the age of 80. This program brings together four of Neumeier's works, "Nijinsky," "Christmas Oratorio," "Tatjana," and "The Little Mermaid. Nijinsky" depicts the tumultuous life of legendary ballet prodigy Vaslav Nijinsky. As the star of the Ballets Russes, founded by Russian artistic producer Sergei Diaghilev, Nijinsky enthralled Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. Nijinsky" is in two acts, with the first act depicting his spectacular career as the star of the Ballets Russes, accompanied by the sweet music of Rimsky=Korsakov's "Scheherazade.In the second act, Neumeier's unique ability to depict the inner life of a man who has fallen into madness amidst the horrors of World War I is visualized with the sharpness of Neumeier's inner vision, with Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11 as the background music. Nijinsky is danced by Alexander Liabko, a principal of the Hamburg Ballet and a trusted partner of Neumeier. Riabko has been a member of the second cast of "Nijinsky" since its premiere in 2000, and he will show us the further evolution of "Nijinsky" over the 18 years he has been dancing it. The cast includes Carolina Aguero as Romola, Nijinsky's wife, and Ivan Urban as Diaghilev, all leading members of the Hamburg Ballet. (1/3) King International
