The five part books were published in 1539. This collection of chants was delivered from Catholic Milan to Protestant Strassburg, transcending religious boundaries. What was the purpose of publishing this collection of motets in a city where Latin choral singing was no longer practiced due to the Reformation?Siglo de Oro worked with Dr. Daniel Trocm-Latter of Cambridge University to produce this album, and from this enigmatic collection of works, we have been able to discover works by Nicolas Gombert, Jaquet de Mantova (Jaquet de Mantova), Jacques Arcadelt, Adrien Villalto The collection successfully introduces motets by well-known composers as well as works by lesser-known composers such as Simon Ferrariensis and Johannes Sarton.
