An original young female composer from Singapore! Deanna Soh is a young composer from Singapore, currently based in Paris, who studied at IRCAM and then under Peter Eötvös, Wolfgang Rihm, Sharino, Brian Ferneyhough, Kyo Mochizuki, and others. Her style can be described as a very particular kind of pointillism. Pointillism is not a post-Webern style, but rather an influence of electronic music. To put it simply, even the music of a large ensemble is always a petit! Pip-po-po, poppi-pi, huña! Honnalala! Poke-poke! Poke-poke! are composed of short bursts, frictions, and noises that move around in an impatient manner. The rhythmic structure is so irregular and complex that it is impossible to discern any underlying rules or systems upon first listen. However, the humorous and somewhat blurred gestures of the sound are sure to draw you in. This is a unique composer of a unique kind. Tobu Land System
