At the time, it was customary to publish solo piano and four-hand piano versions, but Respighi wrote his own four-hand version and proposed it to publishers, as opposed to the usual requests from publishers. Respighi carefully arranged these pieces, which were known for their excellent orchestration, and showed great taste.
