Description:
A Collection of Works by Cossoni and Cazzati from Bologna in the Mid-1600sThis album is a collection of works by Carlo Donato Cossoni (1623-1700) and Maurizio Cazzati (1616-1678), created in Bologna around the 1660s. Milan-born composer and organist Cossoni, also a priest, was the first organist of St. Petronio's Cathedral in Bologna from 1662, and became a member of the Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna in 1967, calling himself a "diligent member of the Accademia." A collection of motets for solo voice is Cossoni's masterpiece. Like Cossoni, Cazzati was also a composer and organist, and contributed to the development of instrumental music during his tenure as music director of St. Petronio's Cathedral from 1657-71. Cazzati's works flourished a style that celebrated the richness and poetry that is considered characteristic of Bolognese violin music. Alice Borciani's soprano solo and the warmth of Ensemble Philomel's performance bring back the world of that time. King International
