The avant-garde art movement took off in Italy at the beginning of the 20th century. The artists of the traveling Futurist movement, whose music can be traced back to the beginning of the 20th century, proclaimed their own message in Italy before World War I. These "declarations" were radical in nature, praising war, anarchism, disdain for women, and criticism of tradition. However, Steffen Schleiermacher has discovered that among these composers' works there are also works that are unparalleled. The album opens with Francesco Barilla Platella's "War. This piece belongs to the Futurists, but the next piece, Gian Francesco Malipiero's "Autumn Prelude," is less about war and destruction and more about the melancholy of autumn, as if we were listening to Debussy or Ravel. Alberto Savinio is better known today as a poet or painter, and his "Song of Half-Death" is a collage of satire and amusement. Alfredo Casella's La note alta is the largest work on the CD. And three short pieces by Silvio Mix conclude Steffen Schleiermacher's Italian avant-garde musical journey. Universal Music/IMS
