Liszt's Exercises for Violin Soloists is now available on SACD hybrid disc. World-renowned pianist Hao Cheng Chang's fourth release on the BIS label is Liszt's \"Super-Exercises\". The late Lorin Maher, who praised Chang's performance as \"like a master! He is one of the best young pianists of our time, known in Japan for his performances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra. The 48 Exercises for All Major and Minor Keys (1826) were revised into the 24 Grand Exercises (1837), and the third draft was revised in 1851 and published in 1852 as the Super-Exercises, dedicated to Cerny. It is a completely new style of piano exercises, and has greatly influenced the piano works of Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Bartók, Ligeti, and other composers who followed in his footsteps. Most of the 12 pieces have subtopics, including such well-known pieces as \"Mazeppa\" and \"Demon Fire.Hao Cheng Chang's performance is full of grain and clearly contoured melody, and despite his superb technique, he does not seem to find it difficult to play.
