Alexandre Kantorov is the first Frenchman to win the 16th Tchaikovsky International Competition in 2019. In the finals, he performed Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2, a difficult piece that requires a higher level of technique than the famous No. 1, which he successfully performed at the competition. Mr. Barre, the president of BIS label, was quick to fall in love with Kantorov's talent and has been recording him since he was a teenager.This highly anticipated new recording is an all-Brahms program from a session at the Dominican Church in Gebvillers, France, in March 2021! The previous recording (BIS SA-2380) included Brahms' Rhapsody No. 1 and Piano Sonata No. 2, and this time Brahms recorded a collection of ballads, Piano Sonata No. 3, and \"Chaconne\" for the left hand. Brahms' piano works, which adhere to the tradition of pure music despite their Romanticism, are especially difficult for young pianists. Kantorov, however, expresses the dramatic emotions beautifully. The Ballades and Piano Sonata No. 3 were written by Brahms between the ages of 20 and 21. Although it is an early work, it requires musical depth and advanced technique, and Kantorov performs it on an overwhelming scale with all his might. The \"Chaconne\" for the left hand is a performance of the soul that shows a keenly honed sensitivity and high level of concentration.
