Their relationship began in the early 1980s when Brams married Sufian's late mother, Carrie, and remained strong throughout Sufian's adolescence and adulthood. In 2008, the two collaborated on Brams' album Music For Insomnia. Sufian's 2015 album, Carrie \u0026amp; Lowell, was a memorial to her late mother through the lens of her marriage to Brams.This album, \"Aporia,\" was recorded over the past several years during each of Brams' visits to New York City, where Sufian lives. Unlike \"Music For Insomnia,\" which took a more non-cooperative, niche approach, \"Aporia\" is a tasteful, New Age-influenced work. After many hours of recording, the duo extracted the best moments from the recordings and completed them as songs. During this process, Brams announced his retirement from Asthmatic Kitty.
