Femke Eylstra is the founder of the Sirene Saxophone Quartet, formed by young Dutch female saxophonists, and the second soprano saxophonist of the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet, a renowned 34-year-old Dutch ensemble. She is one of the most successful saxophonists of her generation. As one of the youngest female professors in Europe, she has been teaching at the Prince Krause Conservatory in Groningen since the age of 29 and has been appointed artistic director of the Emmy Verheij Music Festival in Zaltbomel, the Netherlands, since 2020. Femke Eylstra and pianist Celia Garcia-Garcia, who has Spanish roots, met when they performed Shostakovich's \"Jazz Suite No. 2\" with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and soon formed the \"Duo Eylstra Garcia\".The first album by the girls, \"Colores del Sur\" (Colors of the South), is a collection of saxophone works from Spain and France (and a fun side trip to Brazil). From Paul Maurice's \"Landscapes of Provence,\" a masterpiece for saxophone dedicated to Marcel Mule, to arrangements of masterpieces by Albéniz and Falla, to works by Ravel and Francais on South American and exotic themes, to works by Villa-Lobos, who went to Paris to study, and Millaud, who stayed in Brazil and absorbed the music of that region.
