Finnish mezzo-soprano Virpi Raisanen, who studied voice at the conservatories of Utrecht and Amsterdam, made her international debut in 2009 with Luigi NONO's "Al gran sole carico d' amore" at the Salzburg Festival. Uljas Pulkkis is one of the leading contemporary Finnish composers, noted for his colorful word music.The old Swedish hymn "Dalarna (The Old Hymn of the Summer Pasture)," a well-known song scored and arranged by Oskar Lindberg, was arranged by organist Risto Ainari, and the "Prelude" from J.S. Bach's "The Mean Clavier, Book 1, No. 12" was arranged by Räisänen himself. All of the songs on the album are multi-recorded.
