I forwarded it to Kit. He listened to it, and that's how we started. Rockford recalls that after his father passed away, \"Every day, sometimes even when I was awake, it was like music was coming into me and singing.At first I was conflicted about writing and didn't want to write, but as I wrote, I felt comfortable and also began to feel what I was feeling in my body. So, in a musical sense, this became my diary.\" But the album is filled with striking melodies and themes and poignant chord progressions, with many nuances and different tones and colors spread over a simple grand piano and a minimal drum kit.
