Kurtág's reading and rendering of the archaic lines of Pater Bornemisza (c.1535-1584), one of the central figures of the Hungarian Reformation, is, like Bartók's recording of his reading of the text of the \"Cantata Profana,\" a special interpretation in itself, far more eloquent than any performance instructions. György Kró, a prominent Hungarian music critic of the 20th century, has described Op. 7 as \"the greatest Hungarian musical work of the post-World War II era.
