Born in Gdansk, Poland, Gortberg is said to have studied under J.S. Bach and his son W.F. Bach, who went down in history as a master of the keyboard instrument. Golteberg's works, which are few in number but fascinating, are highly regarded in the world of ancient music. Alina Ratkovska, a former winner of international harpsichord competitions, has long been involved in the study and promotion of Goltberg's works as the initiator of a music festival bearing his name, author of a book on Goltberg, and editor of the scores of two of his concertos. The previously unknown three-movement sonata (in F major) was recorded for the first time with permission from the owner of the collection.
