Although sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp, he was assigned as the conductor and arranger of the camp's orchestra, which gave him nine lives, and then he was transferred to the Dachau concentration camp. He was transferred to the Dachau concentration camp, and was able to return to Paris after the liberation of the camp by the U.S. Army. Lax survived the ravages of the Great War and Nazi persecution, and his three string quartets composed after the war are performed here by the Polish Radio Amadeus Chamber Orchestra with a string orchestra. Agnieszka Duchmal, Poland's most famous female conductor, and her daughter Anna Duchmal-Mroz, also a conductor, are on the baton.
