Porpora was supported by an influential aristocrat as music director, and composed many operas for Farinelli, a famous castrato who was said to have a range of three and a half octaves at the time. These require a superb coloratura, and the countertenor must have the perfect balance of voice and technique to sing them in place of the castrato, which does not exist today. Jasurky sings these things dramatically and captivatingly with a flawless technique that is unimaginable. Backed by the Venice Baroque Orchestra led by Andrea Marcon. This is an album that brings to life the essence of Porpora's unprecedented take on the Italian Baroque works in which they excel.
