This rare recording was made by engineer Rich Alderson in 1961 as part of a test of a new sound system. In addition to Coltrane's signature repertoire of \"My Favorite Things,\" \"Impressions,\" and \"Greensleeves,\" the recording includes \"When Lights Are Low,\" featuring Eric Dolphy's bass clarinet, and the first-ever live recording of Coltrane's \"Africa. The five songs are \"Africa\" composed by Coltrane, which is the first live recording of this piece.The CD booklet for the album includes insightful essays contributed by bassist Reggie Workman and recording engineer Rich Alderson, who were at the show, as well as music historian Ashley Kahn and saxophonists Branford Marsalis and Lakeshia Benjamin.
