The six Obligato Sonatas with Harpsichord by G.F.S. Bach are performed by Noriko Amano, a harpsichordist based in the Netherlands who specializes not only in Italian, German, and other styles, but especially in French styles, and Sayuri Yamagata, a violinist active as a member of the 18th Century Orchestra and concertmaster of the Dutch Bach Society.\n\n\n\nThe six sonatas featured in this album are in the form of trio sonatas, which were composed around 1720 by the great Bach and continued to be modified until his later years. They are masterpieces of sustained tension in harmony, continuous concentration, and the pursuit of a wide variety of possibilities in every movement.\n\nThe album ends with the three remaining movements from the first draft of No. 6.The two works written for violin solo and harpsichord solo were later converted into the Parteta for Harpsichord (BWV.830), and the remaining profound and haunting Adagio is the only work in this first draft that has never seen publication, all of which are valuable recordings.\n\n\n\nBach is famous as one of the most important artists of the Baroque era, but in some ways his works are so far removed and isolated from the typical Baroque works of the time that a \"Bach\" genre should exist. His works are rich in originality, combining harmony, melody, and rhythm in a way that far transcends the boundaries of what had previously been expressed in music, and in these six pieces, 25 movements in total, these elements are so richly expressed that no matter how many rehearsals we have, there is always something new to discover. No matter how many rehearsals we have, there are always new discoveries to be made.
