This collection of six \"classical\" sonatas incorporates jazz and popular idioms and rhythms, and the instrumentation was chosen by Playfair. Six top-notch soloists from around the world were sought out to perform the new music, including Miranda Cookson on violin, Tim Leopold on trumpet, Mike Lormand on trombone, Carol McGonnell on clarinet, Teymar Sullivan on saxophone, and The marimba is played by Makoto Nakura, one of Japan's leading solo marimba players.\n\n\n\nAfter a recital of the \"Playfair Sonata\" in Brooklyn in the summer of 2023, I was introduced to Jean Gaudette, owner of Urlicht AudioVisual, who also made this recording. The recording took place in December of the same year at Octaven Audio, a renowned studio in New York City.
