The following year, his native Lithuania was annexed by the Soviet Union, and he moved to the United States, where he remained. The Symphony No. 3 on this album was composed soon after his arrival in the United States. The two piano concertos were written before World War II, when he studied in Paris. In No. 1, he uses a melody from Lithuanian folk music, which shows his nostalgia for his homeland. The second concerto also uses elements of folk music, the lyrics of which were written by Bacevicius in the score. Both pieces have a decorative piano part, which is embellished by the orchestral accompaniment. Lithuanian pianist Gabrielius Alekna has released three of Bacevicius' piano works on the TOCCATA label and also plays the piano in the concerto on this first collection of sylisses.
