It was Beethoven who took this genre even further. He composed his first piano concerto at the age of 14 (unnumbered, in E-flat major, WoO 4), and in 1790, he completed the first draft of the piece in B-flat major, which would later become his Piano Concerto No. 2. However, before this work was published, various revisions were made—including the replacement of the final movement—and during that time, the concerto in C major, now considered No. 1, was completed. Ultimately, the order of the works was reversed for publication.\nIn this performance of Beethoven’s works, Giltburg once again confronts the pieces with unwavering technical skill and musicality, delivering a magnificent performance. In the First Concerto, characterized by the grand and robust style evident in his later years, he energetically brings the music to life; in the Second Concerto—which, while influenced by Mozart, displays avant-garde ingenuity throughout—he captures startlingly beautiful moments born of exquisite modulations. At the same time, he has meticulously traced the work’s evolution leading up to its publication and summarized the process by which Beethoven completed his “new style” concerto in the booklet. Furthermore, Giltburg himself prepared a cadenza for the “Rondo WoO 6”—originally intended as the final movement of the Second Concerto—and included it on this album, presenting the young Beethoven’s ambitious experiment to listeners in an ideal form alongside his performance.\nSupporting Giltburg’s brilliant performance are the up-and-coming conductor Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance by this duo—who have already earned high praise for their series of Russian works, including Shostakovich—is also worth noting.\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Naxos","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53595615166753,"sku":"4945604741514","price":19.95,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4945604741514.jpg?v=1790481937","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/de-de\/products\/4945604741514","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
