Description:
The popular series of overtures by Domenico Cimarosa. In this sixth collection, Patrick Gallois conducts the well-known Czech Chamber Orchestra Pardovice in a graceful performance of the delightful overtures that colored the 18th century Italian opera scene. The overture to "The Secret Marriage," the most well-known of Cimarosa's works, was premiered in Vienna on February 7, 1792, and performed in the presence of King Leopold II on February 9. The last piece, "The Court Musician," for which no orchestral version has survived, is now performed in a version revised by Marco Broglie, but here we can hear a "completely different version" of the overture orchestrated by Simone Perugini.
