Sibelius (1865-1957) wrote this work for a play by Prokope, a Finnish poet and friend of Sibelius, who was composing his 3rd Symphony at the time. Sibelius, who was composing \"Symphony No. 3\" at the time, even interrupted this work to concentrate on this dramatic music and wrote a wonderful work containing some of the \"most beautiful melodies. A Jewish woman named Leshaner, who is part of a plot to defeat Babylon, awaits the return of King Belshazzar with a dagger in her hand. But the king, enchanted by her, invites her into his palace to make her his own. At the feast, the Jewish girl, Khadra, dances the \"Life\" and \"Death\" dances. The part of her dance was later combined into one piece, \"Kadra's Dance,\" when it was compiled as a suite. It is an interesting work with a slight oriental flavor, although it is not often heard as a complete work. Other rare pieces include an early work, \"Overture,\" \"Ballet Scene,\" and others.
