Many famous conductors have given colorful performances of Ravel's brilliantly orchestrated music, but Slatkin's new brushstrokes have now brought a new style of sound painting to this collection. First up was \"Clown's Morning Song,\" with its delightful Spanish-style rhythms. There are many interpretations of this song, but Slatkin's performance reminded me of the previous night's over-the-top shenanigans, and I found myself giggling and reflecting on myself...still a little hung-over, of course? The cynicism of the performance is a bit like that of a man who is still a bit hungover. After a calm \"Pavane for a Late Princess\" and a rousing \"Spanish Rhapsody,\" the program concludes with the delightful \"Bolero. The final piece, \"Bolero,\" is a joyous finale that never goes over the top, but still manages to be elegant and explosive at the end.I love this Bolero with such a human touch.
