He was originally born in Russia, but moved to Frankfurt am Main when he was three years old. His father was a violinist in an orchestra, and it is known that he became familiar with music at an early age, writing his first piece at the age of 11.The only extant work is \"Six Romances of a Young Man,\" also included in this album, which was completed between 1884 and 1887. Although he is known to have been strongly influenced by Mahler, his works are neither folk songs nor eloquent like those of R. Strauss, but are rather elegant with passionate expressions that move the listener's heart with their enchanting melodies.
