Description:
Arthur Farwell is a composer from Minnesota, USA. As a leader of the "Indianist movement," he believed it was the duty of European-Americans to try to understand the indigenous peoples who had been expelled and oppressed by immigrants to the U.S. He founded the publishing house "War One Press" and devoted himself to publishing works that incorporated traditional Native American music. He founded the publishing house "War One Press" and devoted himself to the publication of works incorporating traditional Native American music. However, he did not achieve the results he had hoped for, and despite the large number of works he left behind, he has been called "the most neglected composer in the history of American music. This album was produced by composer Joseph Horowitz, a well-known scholar of modern American music, in cooperation with the Lakota Music Project, which conducts research on Native Americans in South Dakota, and was created to promote Farwell's music. The opening piece, "String Quartet," was inspired by a Pawnee folklore tale. Written in a single movement, the piece symbolizes tribal rituals and guardians and quotes many folk songs.Together with the following "Three Indian Songs," they were performed at the Post Classical Ensemble Festival, for which Josef Horowitz serves as executive producer.
