The three violin sonatas on this album were all commissioned by violinist Choryang Lin and premiered by himself and his accompanist, John Kimura Parker. The work consists of four movements with distinctive titles. From the first movement, a collage of familiar melodies inspired by David Markson's novel "Vanishing Point," to the final movement, a transformative piece titled "Freilach," music for Jewish dances that expresses the composer's idiosyncrasies as a scholar of the Hebrew language. The final movement, titled "Freilach," is a piece of Jewish dance music that expresses the composer's unique character as a scholar of the Hebrew language. Stucky's sonata was influenced by Debussy's sonata, and is full of improvisational and fantastic atmosphere. Harbison, who says he likes the sonata form, has a clear title for each movement, but the content is symbolic and stimulates the listener's imagination.
