A collection of Jean-Pierre Dupaul's (1741-1818) cello sonatas by the trio of Raphael Pidoux, Pascal Jopar, and Kei Ueyama, a masterpiece known only to those in the know! J.P. Dupaul was born in Paris in 1741, and was a master cellist who played extensively throughout Europe. He is the elder brother of Jean-Louis Dupaul, whose name remains on the Stradivari "Dupaul" used by Rostropovich. Like his brother, Dupaul was a virtuoso cellist who gave public concerts throughout Europe, and from 1786 was the principal cellist in the court orchestra of King Frederick the Great and cello teacher to the king. His works are attractive for their elegant melodies, rich in technical and elegant ornamentation. This recording contains six of his cello sonatas, and is a rare opportunity to hear some of these gems that have been lost to history. King International
