Her operas come vividly to life.\n\nAntonia Bembo was born in Venice around 1640, the daughter of a Venetian doctor, and received a high level of musical training under Francesco Cavalli, a well-known opera composer of the time. In 1676, she joined the delegation of the Venetian ambassador to France as a musician and traveled to Paris. He was favored by Louis XIV for his musical abilities and not only received a royal pension, but was also allowed to reside in a monastery, where he lived until his death in 1720, writing a variety of sacred and secular works dedicated to Louis XIV.\n\n\n\nThe libretto for \"Hercules in Love\" was commissioned by Cavalli in 1660 for the celebration of Louis XIV's wedding. It is not known why Bembo did not add music to the libretto until 1707, but since the hero Hercules represents Louis XIV, it is likely that this work was also dedicated to the king.The opera, which combines elements of Italian and French music, begins with a very French overture that combines Italian technical arias with French chorus. However, despite Bembo's efforts, Louis XIV, himself a dancer, was not interested in an Italianate opera without ballet, and the opera was never performed.\n\nIt was not until 2023 that the work was taken up by Il Gusto Barocco, led by the up-and-coming German keyboardist Halbeck. This ancient instrument ensemble, centered in Stuttgart, is at the forefront of European ancient music performance. In recent years, Halbeck has devoted himself to the revival of outstanding, unknown Baroque operas, including Kusser's \"Adonis\" (CPO 555609), which he has brought back to life in the modern age. In this recording, too, Hrbek has brought Bembo's operas back to life for the first time in 300 years with his masterful conducting of a group of talented singers active in the fields of opera and old music, including Yannick Debs in the title role and Alena Dančeva singing Deianila.\n\nCD jacket Giovanni Battista Foggini: Hercules and Iole (1710-1725)\n\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Cpo","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51435790598433,"sku":"4589538824020","price":41.95,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4589538824020.jpg?v=1751292643","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/de-de\/products\/4589538824020","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
