Johann Abraham Schmierer (also known as Schmierer) was a composer of the 17th and 18th centuries. The details of his life and activities are not known, but it is known that after serving in the choir of Augsburg Cathedral and studying law at the University of Salzburg, he regrettably missed the post of music director of Augsburg Cathedral. This "Instrumental Musical Delights of the Heart" is considered to be a sequel to it. The Parti (Partita in Italian) recorded here is a typical French-style suite with an overture that begins with a solemn rhythm, followed by a series of various court dances. The sound produced by two violins, two violas, two cellos, violone, lute, and harpsichord is transparent, delicate, and unexpectedly deep. Naxos Japan
