Fritz Busch, conductor of the Stuttgart orchestra for several years, wrote a letter in defense of Ventling's fairness, praising him for treating his Jewish students at the conservatory there as if they were Germans under the Nazi regime. The performance of the Ventling Quartet heard here makes extensive use of portamento while using vibrato sparingly. The clarinetist Dreisbach is also notably vibrato, but Mühlfeldt is also reported to have used a lot of vibrato, and it is the opinion of the original commentator, Tally Potter, that this performance is close to the style of Joachim and Mühlfeldt. It would be fun to imagine Muehlfeldt and Joachim playing Mozart's Clarinet Quintet... It would be fun to listen to the quintet while imagining what it would be like.CD 2 includes a performance by Alfred Wittenberg (1880-1952), another Joachim student, and three of the four pieces are the same, so listeners can compare them. Wittenberg was born in Wroclaw (then in Breslau, a German territory). He is said to have played Mendelssohn's violin concerto at the age of eight and Chopin's piano concerto eight days later. At the age of 22, he made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in Joachim's \"Hungarian Style\" Violin Concerto, and in 1908 he performed the Mozart (No. 5), Mendelssohn, and Beethoven violin concertos in one night with the Berlin Philharmonic. During the 1909\/10 season, he founded a string quartet, all of which are recorded here. Of Jewish descent, Wittenberg moved to Shanghai in 1939 to avoid the rise of the Nazis, and taught at the conservatory there.(2\/2) Naxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Biddulph Recordings","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46720944505121,"sku":"4589538802820","price":21.95,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4589538802820.jpg?v=1693777015","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/de-de\/products\/4589538802820","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
