This album is a fine example of German Lutheran church music, and together with the later works heard on the sixth collection (555305), it makes a wonderful impression. The central work in this collection, \"The Dawn Star is Beautiful,\" is a magnificent cantata for five-part chorus, two horns, two recorders, five strings, and basso continuo. The autograph score is lost, but a transcription by Johann Gottfried Walter, a prominent Weimar organist who was also close to Kuhnau, has been passed down to us, making this performance possible. Singing limpidly on all albums throughout the series is Opera Musica, founded in 2011 by conductor Gregor Mayer. The talented singers are accompanied by the ancient instrument ensemble Camerata Lipsiensis, who give a superb performance.
