Description:

The beautiful, elegant music and graceful costumes of Messager's masterpiece comedy opera are now available on film! (Andre, a notary public of the city, is worried about the fidelity of his beautiful and distant wife, Jacqueline. Clavaloche, the new captain of the regiment, arrives in town and immediately takes notice of Jacqueline, a womanizer of rare beauty, and sneaks into her bedroom. At the same time, a naive young country boy, Fortunio, arrives at André's house as an apprentice notary and falls in love with Jacqueline at first sight... Messaget's "Fortunio" premiered at the Opéra-Comique in June 1907, based on the play "Candelabra" by Musset, a French Romantic poet and writer active in the first half of the 19th century, to which Messaget, then conductor and composer at the Opéra-Comique, composed light and beautiful music. The music is based on the play "Candlestick" by the writer Musset. This "Fortunio" became a popular program at the theater, but after World War II, it sank into oblivion. Fifty years later, there is a renewed interest in Messaget's music, and in the 2009 season, the work is back in the repertoire of the Opéra-Comique.In this film, the beautiful heroine Jacqueline is soprano Anne-Catherine Gillet and the simple young man Fortunio is sung by tenor Cyril Dubois. The light and lively performance by the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, led by Louis Langrée's skilled baton, adds to the splendor. The elegant stage costumes by Christian Lacroix, reminiscent of the Belle Époque, are also a highlight. Naxos Japan
