The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of the composer Bruch, who lived to be 82 years old and witnessed changes in society in general and in artistic expression in particular. Even in the 20th century, when the music of Stravinsky and Schoenberg dominated the world, Bruch continued to produce works filled with beautiful melodies. The two pieces on this album are also melodic works that reflect Bruch's beliefs. The Concerto for Two Pianos has the same Op. 88 as the Concerto for Clarinet and Viola, but the two pieces are completely different. The twin duo Mona Baldo & Rica Baldo are playing piano under the remarkable female conductor Matiak. The twins have been playing together since they were children, and they perform with a breathtakingly harmonious performance. Op. 79b, based on a Russian folk song, is another fine piece that makes the most of the beauty of the melody. Naxos Japan
