Description:

This album features three concerto works by Hungarian composer and performer St. Paris. In the superb "Tuba Concerto," the composer himself appears as soloist. Rhapsody" is for clarinet, saxophone, and tarogato, a Hungarian folk instrument with a delightful smoky tone. The tarogato is a reed instrument similar in appearance to the oboe, and has a wild tone similar to that of the saxophone. In "Three Dances," St. Paris plays the bass saxhorn (a brass instrument similar to the tuba, invented by Adolph Sachs), and all three works share the folk music tradition that influenced Bartók and the strong percussive sound characteristic of brass band music, which is complemented by an impressive solo performance.
