This is the first duo album by Polish violinist Swavek and cellist Zdunik, who have performed together on stage in recent years. Swavek is known as a specialist in Weinberg, a Jewish-Polish composer from his native Poland, and Zdunik, a cellist who has performed at the BBC Proms and Argerich's Lugano Festival, and is also skilled at improvisation and arrangement. All of the pieces on this album, a sincere musical dialogue between these two unique performers, have a special connection to Bach. The themes of Ysaye's Sonata and Bach's Partita No. 3, the polyphony of "Malinconia" and "Dance of Shadows," Penderecki's "Chaconne" in its form as well as in its religious nature as indicated by its title, and Gubaidulina's work share the Leipzig master's frank devotion to God, The music expresses hidden mysteries and fascinating mathematical order and harmony.
